About Sara Steffey McQueen

About Me

I paint because I am called by the beauty of Nature or a metaphor that arises. My work is intuitive in how I move from inspiration to the creation of art. The responses come from within. My expressions may be in prints, drawings, collage or painting. I enjoy flowing between the natural landscape, my studio, and the inner world of abstract expression.

My undergraduate and graduate training was at Indiana University in the Printmaking, Photography, and Drawing areas. I have been teaching Art in the public schools in Bloomington since 1985. I have taught privately and at the John Waldron Art Center. My studio / Gallery is in southern Monroe County.

My work is represented in Nashville, IN at the Hoosier Artist Gallery, the Womens' Institute & Gallery in New Harmony, Indiana, and locally at the BY Hand Gallery in Fountain Square Mall on Kirkwood.
Spiritual and Intuitive Art & Mandalas

I have been intrigued with how to bring the inner and outer life in harmony. Poetry and metaphor and Art are magic carpets. I love to ride on them. My study of Native American traditions and Eastern philosophies of Sufism, Taoism, Hinduism and Buddhism guided me into the psychological work of Carl Jung, and creating mandalas as an art form. I am intrigued by the inner realms of spirit, and meditation feed my creative expression. I love to share and so I facilitate Women's Circles locally.
I work one on one and in small group settings as a Facilitator & Guide with women to access the face of their Guides. I love this new way to engage with painting from the inside outward, instead of working from the external world, we visit the inner world of imagination and allow the essence of an experience and intuition to lead the art making.
