MCCSC School Board Elections

1. The November 6, 2012, election will include MCCSC Districts 2, 4, 5, and 6.

2. A candidate must be a resident in the district in which the candidate wants to run.

3. Voting is at-large throughout the school district, which means that all voters vote for a candidate from each of the districts which is up for election.

4. Anyone wishing to stand in a school board election must file for candidacy. Filing packets are available at the Monroe County Clerk’s Office, and can be submitted on or after July 25, 2012, but must be submitted before noon on August 24, 2012.

5. School board seats are non-partisan, and elections include all candidates who wish to stand.


MCCSC Districts and Current School Board Members

As a result of Monroe County Voter Registration reorganization by the Monroe County Clerk which combined voting precincts and which have the potential to be further adjusted, School Board member district descriptions do not match current precinct numbers. To confirm the representation district in which you live, please call the Monroe County Voter Registration office at (812) 349-2690 or the Monroe County Clerk at (812) 349-2600.

The current members of the MCCSC Board of School Trustees are:

District 1 (Kelly Smith, Assistant Secretary)
Precincts: Benton 1,2; Bloomington 9,11,12,14*,15,16*; Washington

District 2 (Sue Wanzer, Member)
Precincts: Clear Creek 1,2; Perry 4,5*,10,11*,20*,21*,22,23,24,25; Polk; Salt Creek

District 3 (Martha Street, Secretary)
Precincts: Indian Creek; Perry 1*,2,3,5*,6; Van Buren 1,2,3,4,5,6

District 4 (James Muehling, President)
Precincts: Perry 8*,9,11*,12,13,14,15*,16*,17*,18,19,

District 5 (Keith Klein, Vice-President)
Precincts: Bloomington 1*; Perry 1*,7,8*,15*,16*,17*,20*,21*

District 6 (Lois Sabo-Skelton, Member)
Precincts: Bloomington 1*,3*,5,7,8*,10,16*

Precinct boundaries are set by (and the responsibility of) the Monroe County Clerk, (812) 349-2600, which is the best source of that information.

Here is a better version of the district map that uses major roads, not precincts, as points of reference. There are also a few points of disagreement, so contact the County Clerk's Office if you want to know the district in which you live.

Hi Eric -

I spoke with Ruth Hickman at the County. She said the map you posted is current.

I asked if she could either send a link or a document we could post here with a street overlay, since this map is really only helpful to those who live at the corner of hw37 and hw48. Those of us who live between major highways are hard to locate.

She's getting with her tech team today to see if we can get a copy of the map with a street overlay, at least for districts 2, 4, 5, and 6.

I'll post here as soon as she gets back to me.

Thanks for following this up. Back in 2010, the County Surveyor's Office was going to produce a more detailed map with a larger format that could be zoomed in to see the streets near the boundaries. Perhaps it is already done, or at least started. In any event, it will be good to have the full version in advance of the filing date.

Ruth asked her "GIS Guy" to put street names to the map for us, and it is attached here.

This new version has also been added to the county site, just below the one Eric provided at the beginning of this topic.

She hopes this will helps increase voter participation in the elections.

Thanks for getting this map posted. I was really hoping that the detailed version was based on the other map, which has a better color scheme.

Only the major streets are named, but for people living near the district boundaries, there is enough information to figure out the details. For anyone who still has questions, the best thing to do is call the Monroe County Voter Registration office at (812) 349-2690.

Thanks to both of you for getting this posted. Ruth Hickman is great!! If anyone doubts their school board district, it really is best to call Ruth Hickman, provide her with your address and she can almost immediately and for memory tell you which school board district.

Hi Eric,
Incumbents Lois Sabo Skelton and Keith Klein will also be running. In the district that Jim Muehling is vacating, David Sabbagh is running. Someone named Randy Barrett has filed to run as well, in District 2. I believe those are the only who have filed so far.
