| OK. We all know Jazzercise is great because it combines cardio, weight bearing exercise, and stretching into one fun and convenient program. That is not all Jazzercise has to offer. Kris has a passion for helping others live healthy lives and doing everything she can to provide opportunities to do so. She not only gives people what they want, but what they need, as well. |

Hi Everyone!
My name is Cheryl Hodge and I love Jazzercise. I finally gave it a try after my friend and co-worker Kimberly just won't stop inviting me. That was April 3rd 2006 and I haven't missed a week since. I really and truly feel 20 years younger. I never dreamed that something so fun could also make me feel so good and as an extra bonus I've lost two sizes in my jeans. Now I'll tell you my life story. I spent the first half of my life growing up on the northside of Bloomington on Bethel Lane. I've sent my adult life living on the westside of Bloomington in and near Ellettsville. As you can see I've had quite an adventurous life so far. I have a wonderful husband of 23 years (Larry) and a blended family of SEVEN kids and eight grandchildren. Three of those grandchildren live right next door and I have the pleasure of seeing them everyday. What a blessing. I suffered with obesity most of my life. I considered it suffering because it had a negative impact on so many parts of my life. One of my earliest memories was buying school clothes for sixth grade in the "Husky Girl" department at Sears. Everything was green and gold plaid. Yuk! I was 180lbs by age 18 and 199lbs at 29 when I became pregnant with my last child. I remember the Doctor saying, "I don't want you to gain any weight with this pregnancy." Proceeding to sob hysterically I asked, "How was I suppose to do that?" Eight months and 15lbs later I gave birth three and one half weeks early to a perfect 8lb 8oz. baby boy. I weighed between 200 and 286lbs. from then on. In 1993 I quit my job and went back to school to become a nurse (LPN). Despite having to arrive very early each day to get the ONLY chair with attached desk that I could fit into, I managed with great pride to graduate fourth in the class. Life was great if only I could overcome my appetite. I vividly remember the day that I sat in my car in the driveway after work leaning my head on the steering wheel and crying because I knew how much it was going to hurt my knees to climb the seven stairs of the porch to get inside the house. That is the day that I decided that I was going to do whatever it took to get the weight off and keep it off. I underwent gastric bypass surgery on August 19,1999 weighing 286lbs. I lost one half of myself 143lbs in fifteen months. That was the easy part. Now seven years and four months later I still weigh myself daily, watch every bite I eat, keep a food journal and now Jazzercise 3 - 6 times a week. After regaining 21bs. I'm now back down to goal. I have before pictures that I love to show and I'm happy to answer any questions. It will never be easy to keep my extra weight off but I will keep working at it every single day. I am currently a LPN part time at IMA (Internal Medicine Associates) and back in school again, this time to become a RN and expand my horizons. My favorite quote is: "It is never too late to become what you might have been" by Mary Engelbreit. |

| I started Jazzercise about 2 years ago. I had always been very small, 5'2" and 115 lbs. Then in 2003 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and I was devastated. It was caught early, but the fact remained I had the "C" word and anxiety dealing with it caused me to gain weight and become distant from the outside world. Then I seen an ad for the SportsPlex and I went on-line and seen Jazzercise advertised. I spoke with Kris and she assured me I could work at my own pace and would feel comfortable. I was finding myself in a slump and thought I'd give it a try. I met some of the warmest people and the more I came to class the more I wanted to come to class. I feel I've made some new friends and the outside activities are fantastic as well. I sometimes get busy with work and miss for a while and every time I do the instructors and people in the class always are glad to see me back and make me feel a real part of something. This was something I needed during a very upsetting time in my life and I recommend to everyone to not wait until you're faced with a tragic event to seek a healthier lifestyle or depressed to seek out opportunities to smile and make friends. Grab some shorts, a T-shirt and tennis shoes, no matter what age, shape, sex, or size and be a part of health, friendships and life with Jazzercise. |
